Join us for a webinar featuring the 2023 McGraw Prize winner Dr. Barbara Oakley, Distinguished Professor of Engineering, Oakland University.

Oakley has made learning easier for millions of people from all walks of life by revealing how insights from neuroscience can improve our understanding of challenging concepts in math and engineering—and countless other fields. More than 5 million people worldwide have taken her free massive open online courses (MOOCs).

For more than three decades, the McGraw Prize in Education has recognized outstanding individuals deeply committed to harnessing innovation in education to improve the lives of learners worldwide.

This webinar — moderated by Dr. Bodong Chen, Penn GSE Associate Professor, is one in a series presented by Catalyst @ Penn GSE featuring winners of the Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Prize for Education. Together, Catalyst and the McGraw Prize are advancing innovation in education through a growing array of programming. This live virtual event will be recorded.

Oakley accepted her McGraw Prize at a ceremony in NYC in November, where she talked about the millions of learners and teachers who have had access to courses online, thanks to her work.

“By embracing the synergies between neuroscience and time-honored contemplative methods, many have gained a newfound sense of their potential,” Oakley said. “Our courses resonate not only in schools, universities, and with working professionals, but also in refugee”
